Fuel Efficiency, A New Look

The government and environmental groups are always pushing for more fuel efficient cars and less fuel consumption. Through tax breaks for hybrids, and all the media and blah blah blah. But the average hybrid costs a couple thousand more than it's counterpart.

Now see, the average person drives here and there, perhaps taking the highway all the time, or going the same routes they always know. The average person may get lost a little bit when they go someplace they've never been before.

Now here's the genius of the idea: How about instead of the couple thousand dollar premium for a fuel efficient vehicle, not to mention the millions spent in research grants, we issue a couple hundred dollar GPS unit to all drivers. Hell, make everyone pay for it when they get their license. That way everyone will know where they're going, and it will save in fuel costs, because they will be driving efficiently. They say a 1% increase in fuel efficiency across the board saves 50 million or so barrels of oil a day. Imagine if we became 5-10% more efficient in our driving habits, what routes we took, and didn't get lost.

Now go back to your caves, you environmentalist hippies. Put a GPS in your Prius and shut up.

AND there will be less accidents, because people (me) get frustrated when they're lost. GENIUS!

GPS baby! And my map (the analog GPS). And my great sense of direction. And my mass of knowledge. And Google maps. And MapQuest. And Yahoo maps. And my awesome abilities to guide by the sun, the stars and moon.

All those nights riding with Andy as tour guide. Even though I might have been drinking, and worrying about who's mailbox I was gonna pee in, I was paying attention to directions.

Yes, and all those times I've call you, Andy. "Hey Andy...What does 4th street turn into?" "Hey Andy...Get on MapQuest real quick!"
