Samsung and Nortel hit 3.6Mbps down / 2Mbps up over HSUPA

Now this is some exciting stuff right here too bad, I'll be 30 before the US gets it.

The following news item was received thanks to PicoNews:

Big deal, another demonstration of wireless video streaming to laptops and cellphones... we've seen that before, right? Au contraire, these devices are pumping vid over HSUPA and are on display now at ITU Telecom World in Hong Kong. Samsung and Nortel managed to squeeze a downstream data rate of 3.6Mbps out of a theoretical 5.6Mbps. Better yet, they pulled off a 2Mbps upstream rate kicking HSDPA's puny 384kbps neatly to the curb. Both rates comfortably smoke those demonstrated by Option and Nortel earlier in the year. Yeah, we knew the demonstration was coming, but with HSUPA networks going hot in 2007 -- notably with Orange in Europe -- isn't it nice to see the first glimpse of a laptop snuggled up to a new SGH-G630 HSUPA handset we might someday be holding?

Mobile phones make payments at Coca-Cola machines

Oooooh! Finally! I want it now!

Engadget Mobile
In a not too distant future, consumers in the good olD US of A will be able to walk up to vending machines and make Coca-Cola purchases using their cellphone. The same VeriSign Coke apparently intends to use already links the cellular operators and over 100 vending machines across Austria for customers of Mobilkom and ONE wireless. No word on whether or not this is going to use RFID or something, but we think it'd be in their best interests to keep it simple, and rock it SMS style. Now to figure out a use for all the change in our pockets.

Fin wins cell phone throwing competition

"This year's gold medal went to Finland's Lassi Etelatalo, who flung a scrapped
Nokia unit a forceful 89.00 meters. "I prepared by javelin throwing, I haven't really practiced throwing mobile phones," Etelatalo told Reuters."

You do have a Paypal account, don't you?

Well, it appears to be that Paypal is about to jump on the TextPayMe bandwagon and launch a Paypal Mobile service. One can only suspect that it would be similar to what TextPayMe started up a year ago. The rumors are circulating stemming from a job posting for a management position for a new division of Paypal, called Paypal Mobile. So, if you trust Paypal, perhaps you better trust the future and start sending money via cellphone today.

C'mon, you don't want those European to get all the cool stuff, now do you?

You can buy a soda from a vending machine via cell phone, and now you can buy a cell phone via vending machine.

Don't forget the Japanese.

Or how about the Canadians?

To those of you that know me personally, how many times have I been wrong about shit like this? How many times have I turned you on to something just to have it explode into the hottest thing shortly thereafter? Music. Websites. etc. Nuff said.

I know there will forever be naysayers...But are you still scared? C'mon, we're talking sending a few dollars between friends. It's not like you're going to be buying a car via TextPayMe. Besides, think about this: all credit cards have fraud protection, all banks have fraud protection, so if a malicious hacker (or errors in the service) cause you to lose money somehow, then you're still covered. What the hell are you waiting for?
Oh, and despite what some articles still say about them, they removed the part of the user agrement that gives them permission to pull your credit. They don't do that.
One last thing. There's a rumor that if you are a Beta user (they are still in Beta as of this post), you may be able to use the service for free even when they start charging fees. They even ask for your feedback as to what they should charge!

Polite Cell Phones

via Slashdot
"yEvb0 writes "Researchers at Motorola and Carnegie Mellon University are developing more polite cell phones. Strategies include programming the ringer to turn on and off according to the time of day, monitoring sound light levels to determine if the owner is a movie theater or talking to his boss, and even letting callers decide whether they'd like to interrupt based on this information."

Firefly Mobile Is Against Gay Marriage

And it's a good thing. No, it doesn't come in a 'Dad and Bruce' model. Or a 'Mom and Ellen' model. Just 'Mom and Dad'. And that's the way it should be.

And in case you were wondering, I'll take mine in X-Ray or Limeade.

If you wanna be a fag, you'll have to go with Verizon. And you can have Dad be number one, and his 3 boyfriends be 2, 3 and 4. According to the website, "4 parent programmable numbers". If they meant the parent's could program the numbers, they would have a hyphen between parent and programmable. But no, they just think it's ok to have 4 parents. Those orgy-loving Verizon fags.
